The Art of "Plomba" - Sztuka "plombowania"
|
"Plomba" is a dentistry term and it means a tooth filling. However the same word has been used for years to describe "plug-in" buildings, i.e. structures erected in between old houses to fill holes left by the devastation of World War II. In the communist years these "fillings" were almost uniformly hastily built and extremely ugly. Today the art of properly blending new structures with pre-war architecture is flourishing. There is even a yearly competition in Wroclaw whose purpose is to award the title of "Plomba of the Year". Let's take a look at some of these recent creations. Plomba to przede wszystkim termin dentystyczny. Jednak tym samym słowem nazywa się "wtyczki" budowlane, czyli domy wzniesione w dziurach, które powstały w wyniku zniszczeń wojennych. W czasach PRL-u plomby te były zwykle bardzo pośpiesznie budowane i niezwykle brzydkie. Dziś sztuka wtapiania nowej architektury w starą doczekała się rozkwitu. Jest nawet doroczny konkurs na najlepszą plombę Wrocławia. Przyjrzyjmy się zatem kilku tego rodzaju budynkom. |
